Why have I never done this before?

And so begins a series where I list things I should do in NYC in the hopes that by writing them down, I'll actually do them!

1. Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City. So close. So pretty.

2. Stitch n Bitch. I can join cool girls and embroider cool stuff like spiders and lillies onto things.

3. Kayak on the River! For FREE!

4. Meditate.

Aaah, all these things courtesy of some Facebook Friends who are helping me out of a funk ;-)

Is it summer yet?

Hello Fans and Air Conditioners!

I know it's not even Memorial Day yet, but I am posting my annual, here's what is going on in NYC this summer for FREEEEEE. At least Part 1 (May & June)...cuz a lot of it isn't announced yet ;-)

* May 29th--the new Coney Island opens, called Luna Park. So while not totally free, as you have to pay for the rides, the great people watching is au gratis!! (Oh and be sure to check out the Mermaid Parade on June 19th!)

* June 8th--Do you heart art? Well then Museum Mile Festival is for you!

* June 12th--Fat Bottom Girls Make the Rockin' World Go Round!!! Sign up for the naked bike ride.

*June 24th--A great show at Prospect Park Bandshell--Buena Vista Social Club!

*June 26th--Apples in Stereo live at the South Street Seaport. Concerts with an incredible view.

* June 26th & 27th--Willyburg walk--walk it out with hipsters and see some art and eat some food.

*June 30th--Not free, but it's only $10, and I love the name of the band cuz it's named after one of my favorite books ever: The Secret History, Live + Guests at The Bell House.

*On-going
--> Monday night Craft Night sponsored by Etsy!
--> Thursday Night Burlesque @ Nurse Bettie
--> Free drinks for you and 15 of our friends! Well sort of. At Bushwick Country Club.

Spring has Sprung

So this post is inspired by those wonderfully weird little things that happen in New York in Spring that you may or may not have heard of.

1. The Elephant Parade
This happens, apparently, every year when the circus comes to town! It's already passed, but keep it on your radar for next year. They walk the elephants from New Jersey to Madison Square Garden.

2. Perry Street Flea Market
Flea Markets abound in NYC, but they are usually over-run by commercial crap or tourists. However, I've got it on good inside info that this one is quality. An artist/photographer friend of mine sells there every year. It's for "collectors" she says. Check it out!

3. The Orchid Fair.
At Rockefeller Center. Tuesday April 20 thru Sunday April 23 2006.

4. Watch TV Shows being filmed
Gossip Girl is often filmed at The Palace Hotel, Central Park, and at a school in Brooklyn Heights. Some people stalk the locations. Other great shows filmed here are Law & Order and Flight of the Conchords.

5. A Train to the Aqueduct Race Track
Horse Racing. Fun for some, not for all. But still, pretty cool that you can take the subway to a race track, no? (Take the "A" train to the Old Aqueduct Station.). Only a few Saturdays left...
